Internships
at BiVACOR®
You can make a real difference, gain real experience, and provide real impact with an Internship at BiVACOR.
From June through September, you can make a real difference, gain real experience, and provide real impact with an Internship at BiVACOR.
BiVACOR is pioneering the future of cardiac care with an incredibly promising medical device designed to replace a failing heart in patients with severe heart failure. Every year, we host five to seven interns in our Huntington Beach, CA, location for paid summer internships. Our interns demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership, communication skills, and technical excellence in mechanical, systems, electrical, or manufacturing engineering. These opportunities offer flexible 10- to 13-week summer job assignments, adjusted to your academic and extracurricular calendars.

Testimonials
“I was drawn to BiVACOR because of the groundbreaking work being done on the Total Artificial Heart, which was recognized as one of TIME magazine’s best innovations of 2024. That recognition further inspired me by showing the impact and innovation behind the company’s work. During my internship with BiVACOR, I was able to develop new skills and gain deeper experience with Python, LabVIEW, and conducting electrical measurements (LCR and HiPot), among others. Overall, it was a fantastic learning and growth experience.”
“Inspired by my personal experience and desire to design for good, I have a passion for developing medical devices to contribute towards improving people’s quality of life. I was drawn by how innovative and potentially revolutionary BiVACOR is as a solution to heart failure, as seen through the numerous successful in-human early feasibility studies, and the company’s mission to restore people’s lives resonated with me. The most valuable thing I learned during my internship was how to conduct rigorous testing, perform root cause analysis, and maintain scientific records in accordance with regulatory and quality standards. I also learned how to interface with different engineering departments, specifically software and mechanical, by learning their respective terminology, methods, software, and tools.”
“I had such a great experience with the Systems Team, and I think this has made me optimistic about finding a role where I can apply engineering concepts hands-on in daily work. Some of my favorite moments were running experiments on the mock loop to collect data for future implants while talking to the team about why these measurements mattered and how the work we were doing would directly impact patients. This internship was a great experience right before my medical device development-focused Master’s, and it was so special to be a part of a company going through the development and approval process before starting that program.”
“I thought it was inspiring working around so many people who were passionate about their work. I was also fascinated by the cutting-edge technology BiVACOR is developing. Overall, I would say my experience at BiVACOR reinforced my decision to pursue biomedical engineering and solidified my goal to work in the medical device industry after university.”
A Small, but Mighty Team
We are a team of fewer than 50 passionate professionals united by a bold mission to revolutionize heart replacement therapy. As a member of our team, you’ll benefit from:
- A supportive direct mentorship and accelerated learning from experienced engineers
- Cross-functional collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and regulatory teams
- Agile decision-making and the ability to see your ideas come to life quickly
- Exposure to FDA, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971 standards
